41.60 €AISI 316 stainless steel is the ideal material for boat cockpit drains, thanks to its high resistance to corrosion caused by saltwater. Other materials, such as plastic, may be less expensive but tend to deteriorate more quickly.
Measure the diameter of the existing drain hole and ensure the new drain has the same dimensions or is slightly larger. Also, check the deck thickness to ensure the drain fits properly.
If you have some experience with plumbing work, you can install the drain yourself. However, it's essential to ensure the drain is properly sealed to prevent leaks. If you're not confident, it's best to consult a professional.
Clean the drain regularly to remove debris and buildup. You can use a brush or hook to remove stubborn dirt. In some cases, it may be necessary to disassemble the drain for a more thorough cleaning.
Use nautical-specific detergents with a neutral pH. Avoid harsh products (bleach, solvents) that dull the gelcoat. Apply a protective wax after washing to preserve shine and protect against UV rays. Check out our section dedicated to boat cleaning.
