For illuminating your chart table or the head of your berth in the cabin, choose an adjustable reading light. LED models consume less power and last longer than traditional bulbs. Check the supply voltage (typically 12V or 24V) and the mounting type (wall, panel, or recessed).

Reading lights should have a focused and adjustable beam to avoid disturbing others. Light intensity (measured in Lumens) is another important factor: a value between 50 and 200 Lumens is sufficient for comfortable reading.

Materials: AISI 316 stainless steel for maximum corrosion resistance, aluminum for lightness, and brass for a classic touch. Always ensure the IP protection rating is suitable for the marine environment (at least IP44 for splash resistance).

Nautica Basile's Advice

  • Before ordering, check the dimensions of the light and the available space onboard.

  • If you have any doubts about compatibility with your electrical system, consult a marine electrician.

  • For cleaning, use only specific products for stainless steel or aluminum, avoiding harsh solvents.

Complete your boat's lighting with our courtesy lights and ceiling lights. For a compliant system, don't forget appropriately sized marine electrical cables.

What color temperature (K) should I choose for a reading light?

For reading, a warm white light (2700-3000K) is recommended as it is less tiring on the eyes. For night navigation, a cool white light (5000-6000K) promotes concentration and detail perception.

Do LED reading lights get very hot?

The latest generation of LED reading lights generate very little heat compared to traditional bulbs. This reduces the risk of overheating and extends the product's lifespan.

How do I mount a wall-mounted reading light?

Mounting varies depending on the model. Generally, the base of the light is fixed to the wall with screws or bolts. Make sure the surface is clean and dry before proceeding. Connect the electrical wires, respecting the polarity (positive and negative).

Can I use a 220V reading light on my boat?

No, unless you have an inverter that converts the voltage from 12/24V to 220V. It is always advisable to use lights specifically designed for marine use, which are designed to withstand humidity and vibration.
