What products should I use to clean stainless steel without damaging it?

For cleaning stainless steel, we recommend using products specifically designed for nautical use. These detergents are formulated to effectively remove salt and dirt without damaging the surface of the steel. Avoid using harsh or abrasive detergents, which could scratch or dull the stainless steel. A soft cloth and a mild detergent are sufficient for effective cleaning. After cleaning, apply a specific stainless steel protectant to prevent corrosion and maintain shine over time.

How can I protect my outboard motor from theft?

In addition to using specific anti-theft locks for outboard motors, you can take several measures to increase security. Consider installing a GPS alarm system, which will allow you to locate the engine in case of theft and promptly notify the competent authorities. Another useful precaution is to engrave the engine's serial number in hidden places, making it less appealing to thieves and facilitating its identification if found.

Are all stainless steel locks the same?

Absolutely not. The quality of the stainless steel used in the manufacture of locks makes a big difference in terms of corrosion resistance and durability. AISI 316 stainless steel is considered the best for the marine environment, thanks to its high resistance to salt and weathering. Before buying a lock, always check that it is made of this material. Also, carefully check the robustness of the shackle and locking mechanism, making sure they can withstand attempts to force them open. A poor-quality lock can be easily tampered with, compromising the security of your boat.

Can I use the same lock for different applications on board?

Although it is possible to use the same type of lock for different applications on board, it is advisable to choose specific models based on the security needs of each area. For example, to protect a locker containing valuable equipment, you could opt for a standard stainless steel lock. For the outboard motor, on the other hand, it is preferable to use a dedicated anti-theft device, equipped with more advanced security mechanisms that are resistant to tampering attempts.
