The Lewmar V Series windlasses set the standard for reliability and long-lasting performance. Constructed from marine-grade AISI 316 stainless steel, they resist corrosion even after years of heavy use. The V Series covers many different vessels, from small cabin cruisers to large yachts, with models varying in power and pulling capacity. These inox windlasses are a great choice for your vessel.

Choosing the right model depends on several factors: boat size, anchor weight, and type of use (coastal cruising or offshore sailing). An undersized windlass can overheat and become damaged, while an oversized model results in unnecessary energy consumption.

Lewmar V Series windlasses are designed to work with chain sizes from 6 to 14 mm and rope sizes from 12 to 20 mm. Retrieval speed varies depending on the model, but generally ranges from 18 to 25 meters per minute (maximum speed). Electrical consumption ranges from 45 to 125 Amps, depending on motor power.

The Nautica Basile Recommendation

Before installing a new windlass, carefully check the dimensions of the anchor locker and the capacity of the onboard electrical system. Undersized wiring can cause voltage drops and compromise the windlass's performance. We always recommend installing an appropriate magnetic-thermal circuit breaker, with amperage between 35 and 150 A.

  • Fast shipping throughout Italy.

  • Official Lewmar warranty.

  • Pre- and post-sales technical support.

  • Availability of original spare parts.

Complete your anchoring system with a high-quality calibrated chain and a swivel shackle to prevent twisting during anchor retrieval. Don't forget to periodically check the wear of the chain and rope.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Lewmar V1 windlass sufficient for my 10-meter sailboat?

It depends on your boat's displacement and the weight of the anchor. In general, for a 10-meter boat with a standard anchor (10-15 kg), the V1 might be sufficient for coastal use. If you plan to sail in areas with strong winds or currents, or if you have a heavier anchor, we recommend opting for the V2, which offers greater pulling capacity.

What is the difference between a 12V and a 24V windlass?

24V windlasses are generally more efficient and offer better performance, especially on larger boats. For the same power, a 24V windlass draws less current than a 12V one, reducing the risk of voltage drops and overheating of the cables. However, they require a 24V electrical system, which may not be present on all boats.

How can I protect my windlass from corrosion?

After each use, rinse the windlass with fresh water to remove salt and dirt. Periodically apply a marine-specific lubricant to the moving parts. Regularly check the condition of the sacrificial anode (if present) and replace it if necessary. During winter storage, protect the windlass with a waterproof cover.

What type of chain should I use with my Lewmar windlass?

It is essential to use a high-quality calibrated chain, specifically designed for windlasses. Verify that the chain diameter is compatible with your windlass's gypsy (usually indicated in the technical specifications). Using a non-calibrated chain or one with the wrong diameter can compromise the windlass's operation and cause damage.
