What is the difference between a through-hull fitting and a dock water connection?

A through-hull fitting is installed on the hull and allows you to draw water directly from the sea (for deck washing, engine cooling, etc.). A dock water connection, on the other hand, is a fitting that allows you to connect the boat to the harbor's water supply to replenish fresh water tanks.

How do I choose the right pressure regulator?

The pressure regulator should be chosen based on the flow rate of your pump and the maximum pressure supported by your onboard system. Check the manufacturer's specifications and choose a model with an adjustable outlet pressure.

Can I use standard plumbing fittings for drinking water?

No, it is not recommended. Drinking water fittings must be made of non-toxic materials that are certified for food use. Only use marine-specific fittings that are corrosion-resistant and safe for health.

How often should I check the through-hull fittings?

At least once a year, during winter storage. Check for fouling or corrosion, check the condition of the valves and gaskets, and lubricate the moving parts. Regular inspection prevents problems and extends the life of the system.
