What is the difference between a horn cleat and a T-shaped cleat?

The horn cleat is more traditional and suitable for ropes of different diameters. The T-shaped cleat offers a larger contact surface and therefore greater holding power, especially with large diameter ropes.

How do I calculate the breaking strength required for a cleat?

The breaking strength of the cleat should be at least twice the maximum working load expected for mooring. Always consider the most adverse weather conditions.

Can I install the cleats myself or do I need a professional?

If you have good manual skills and know the fastening techniques, you can install the cleats yourself. Otherwise, it is advisable to contact a professional to avoid safety problems.

How do I protect the cleats from wear and corrosion?

Clean the cleats regularly with fresh water and a neutral detergent. Periodically apply a stainless steel protector to preserve its shine and resistance to corrosion.

What type of hardware should I use to secure the cleats?

Use only AISI 316 stainless steel hardware to avoid galvanic corrosion problems. Verify that the bolts are correctly sized for the expected load and that they are tightened to the correct torque.
