The drying time (curing) of the resin depends on several factors, including ambient temperature, humidity, and the amount of catalyst used. Generally, the resin is completely hardened to the touch after a few hours, but reaches maximum mechanical strength after 24-48 hours.
After completing the repair and sanding the surface, apply a layer of gelcoat or specific protective boat paint. These products contain UV filters that protect the resin from sunlight and prevent discoloration and deterioration over time.
A standard kit generally includes polyester or epoxy resin, catalyst (or hardener), fiberglass cloth (mat or roving), application spreaders, protective gloves, sandpaper of various grits, and detailed instructions for use.
Fiberglass repair kits are specifically formulated for repairing fiberglass surfaces. Use on other materials, such as wood or metal, may not guarantee optimal adhesion and a lasting repair. In these cases, it is advisable to use products specifically designed for the material in question.
